Colorado RV Park with Hookups
The real first question you need to answer is whether your pop up is wired for 20 amps. Go find the electrical cord that is attached to your trailer’s breaker panel where it exits the body of the trailer. Take a close look at the male end of that cord. If it looks like a conventional household plug 2 vertical prongs and a ground spike , then your trailer is equipped for a 15 amp service.
If it has one vertical prong, a horizontal prong and a ground spike, then it’s a 20 amp fitting.
Hello Mike, If you have a amp trailer and amp service is the only service available at the campground post, can you show me a wiring schematic of the adapter pigtail I would use to adapt from amp service to a amp trailer.
We have a 50 amp Elkridge and used a 50 amp to 30 amp converter. Everything ran fine until we ran the air conditioner. At the time I didn’t realize the box was only 20 amps. Needless to say, it popped the breaker and the extension cord got hot. We ended up not running the ac and just used lights and a fan. Keep in mind that you have hidden loads like the Power Converter that keeps the battery charged and runs the lights and other stuff. In some modes, the larger power converters can draw around 12 amps.
But all that said, lots of people camp with 30 amp connections. Here’s a link http: Click on the button for 30 amp service.

what to use for 30 amp campground hookup?
Typical RVs with a single air conditioning unit and more modest standards of provision need a 30 amp service. All RVs need an electrical hook-up box, sometimes called an outlet or receptacle, to plug into. Decide what level of provision the electrical hook-up box must answer. Hook-up boxes are available with single amp and single amp outlets, and with multiple outlets, featuring a amp outlet served by a amp breaker, a amp outlet served by a amp breaker and a number of amp outlets served by a amp breakers.
Buy a rainproof electrical hook-up box with a cut-out design, so that the cover can be closed with the shore power cord in place.
30 or 30/50 amp Electrical Service Overview: All of our campsites require a 30 amp or 50 amp receptacle plug (typically equipped on all RV’s). Should you require a connection to our receptacle using a regular volt plug, adapters are available at our French Mountain Trading Post for this purpose.
The trailer does NOT have an air conditioner. How difficult would it be to convert the electrical system from the 50 amp service to a 30 amp service? I know a 30 amp cable is a lot lighter than a 50 amp cable so I am looking to see if I can save some weight due to not having to carry the heavier cable among other things that are not needed. Richard Davidson September 18, at 6: Be sure your surge protector cannot be just un plugged and taken. I opted for the permanently installed kind and not the plugin type.

Tweet This page is part of a sequence of questions on our RV electrical systems section. You can browse the rest of the related questions at the bottom of this page. The answer to this question depends on whether your RV has 30 amp or 50 amp capabilities. You may have already read this from a previous question in this series, but you can easily know which you have by looking at your power cord. A large plug with 3 prongs is most common and is 30 amps.

My plan is to have a RV electrical hook up that will be either 30 amp or 50 amp, that part seems pretty straight forward to me. Where I get a little fuzzy is what panel to do inside the Tiny House. Making things a little more complex is I want to use a product called eMonitor, which measures the power usage of each circuit.
It comes with 14 sensors that surround the wire for each circuit inside the panel, so I can measure up to 14 circuits power usage. So if I have a 30 amp or 50 amp hook up what panel should I be using inside the tiny house so I have at least 14 different circuits, but taking into account the 30 or 50 amp hookup. Things that I will be powering in the house complete list:

January 29, It is difficult to tell you exactly what you can run along with the converter for 12V-dc as that will depend upon how much it happens to be using at the moment. If batteries are full and you are not using the furnace or some other large 12V load, the typical draw is probably less than 5A. You can get an idea of what it may need by estimating the 12V current draw and divide that by In other words, to supply 30A-dc power your converter will use just a little more than 3A-ac V.
The largest 12V-dc load in most RVs is the furnace blower, but you might have a few other big ones. Your slide outs usually draw a lot but only when moving in or out.
While many campgrounds do have RV electrical hook ups for both 50 amp and 30 amp cords, some campgrounds have only 30 amp hookups available. Therefore, it’s a good idea to invest $20 or so in a 50 amp to 30 amp adapter.
But in addition to the volt electrical supply, there may also be lights, fans, a refrigerator, or other electrical devices which use a 12 volt supply, like that of a car or truck. A volt DC system powers the RV refrigerator to keep food cold while the RV or camper trailer is moving from place to place. The same goes for the lights and fans. It also keeps the on-board batteries fully charged.
This system relies on the volt AC electrical power supply for amperage. It is possible to pull a volt power supply from the RV or camper trailer’s electrical system or volt campsite power supply. Then the volt supply can be stepped down to 12 volts after it is run through a power converter and to a particular appliance. These two electrical systems are treated independently from each other when diagnosing electrical problems, except for determining power to the converter.
The lights, fans, or refrigerator may each be on their own circuits, depending on the amperage required. If the converter is supplying 12 volts to the breaker panel and the breakers test positive for voltage, this leaves the wiring or the particular appliance at fault.
Need to Know Differences Between 30 and 50 Amps
RVs built for North America all use volt appliances, except for specialty heating products such as the Cheap Heat. That being said we have sold quite a few of the CheapHeat systems in the Europe because the CheapHeat system will work there with no modifications.
