The first Fender solidbody model, the Esquire , lasted in name only from June to October This model name was replaced by the “Broadcaster”, which lasted in name only from the October to January All Broadcasters have truss rods, where many Esquires often have no truss rod. In Gretsch had trademarked the name “BroadKaster” for a line of drums. After advertising the Broadcaster in music trade papers in February 20, , Gretsch took notice and sent Fender a telegram asking them to change their name. Therefore Fender was forced to drop the name Broadcaster. Starting around February 22, , Fender cut the word “Broadcaster” off of their headstock decals. These models February to summer are known as “NoCasters”. Starting in the summer of , Fender adopted the name “Telecaster” for this model, and started using new decals after all the old clipped decals were used.

I often get asked, how old is my Fender guitar? Most of the time this question can’t be answered specifically. The Fender numbers tell the story of the company over the years. Unfortunately, the serial number placement is sporadic and many ID numbers over lap between years and models. In many instances, there is no exact known date for a specific guitar. That is why I decided to write this article. I want to help you understand how to tell the age of your Fender as well as any Fender you see.
Fender like Gibson has been producing guitars for many years. Certain styles and colors have come and gone over the years, but there is no real obvious way to tell how old a Fender is other than the indentification number. Unfortunately, Fender decided not to simply write the date of manufacture on the guitar. They decided that it would be easier to decipher the serial number code than just write the year on the guitar.
I say this only joking.

Dating gibson pickups submissive dating Apr That made it easy to solder a new pickup to the old wiring harness, but it trashed this great old humbucker. A sought-after session musician both before and during his tenure with the band, Allman performed with such established stars as King Curtis, Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin, Otis Rush, and Herbie Mann.
Nov 15, · a few years ago I started a tele build project that never came to fruition. During the process, a buddy gave me what I believe is a pre CBS bridge pickup.
With an impressive sound when both clean and distorted, this mini humbucker feels well balanced, with a sparkly bite and a tight low-end found on your typical full-sized humbucker. Its best-of-both-worlds tonal output makes this mini humbucker a very versatile pickup, and is ideal for blues playing. Made with an Alnico V magnet and featuring a chrome cover, it fits comfortably into the neck position, and naturally pairs well with an SM1-B in the bridge.
However, they can be roughly divided into the following categories: P Of course, we start with the classic P This is a single-coil pickup , although sports some qualities of a humbucker. P s have a similar construction to the classic Strat single-coil pickup , but are made with larger, flatter coils, along with a flat alnico bar magnet under the coil bobbin instead of magnetic pole-pieces.
P s offer a unique, versatile tone that is adored by audiophiles — vintage in feel, with a chunkier sound than a single-coil and more clarity and spark than a humbucker. These humbuckers really do offer the much-desired classic tone of the late fifties, varying in output — Burstbucker 1 is underwound to provide a medium output, Burstbucker 2 is a little hotter, while Burstbucker 3 is overwound for huge tones! The focus is more on vintage than delivering the edgy tone that Burstbuckers offer.
Then you have their ultra-aggressive Dirty Fingers, which takes output to a whole new level. Mini Humbucker Created by Gibson subsidiary Epiphone in the late s, the mini humbucker is exactly what the name suggests — a smaller, more compact humbucker with a narrower magnetic field that will fit into a P slot. Made famous by the Gibson Firebird, mini humbuckers produce a bright, focused sound, and are pretty well balanced between a single-coil and humbucker in the tonal spectrum.
In fact, it was likely that your parents were steering you in the direction of accordion lessons. The Beatles — and of course others — stopped all that. Suddenly, electric guitars were 1 on every kids Christmas list.
The Hagstrom III (or F in the United States) was a Swedish-built solid body electric guitar available in the mid-late s. It was a three-pickup version of the Hagstrom II (F). Clearly the design of this guitar was influenced by the Fender Stratocaster, and Gibson SG, but this is no mere HIII is well equipped with three single-coil Hagstrom pickups.

The current Gibson serial number system There is no Gibson serial number decoder that can automatically date your pre Gibson, although after this time, the currently used eight digit system ha been used. Not only can it tell the date, but also the place of production. These details are encoded unambiguosly into the serial number as follows. It is the same guitar in fact that I played on a youtube video and that was featured in a blog post six years ago. It belonged to a collector of MK-related guitars who lives near my place, and when I learned that it was for sale I could not resist. With this blog post I want to focus on the Floyd Rose tremolo on such guitars. I must admit that I had never delved deep into Floyd Rose tremolos and their differences before, but with the arrival of this guitar I had a closer look at it.
One striking feature of an original Floyd Rose are the protruding screws on the rear side of the bridge that lock the string ends. I could not remember such long screws on the MK-1 so I had a closer look at some pictures of it again.

Jun 3, Thank you Kevin. I feel fortunate that I was able to buy it back. I was able to get to my Mom’s house today. I inspected and photographed the guitar a bit more. I made a typo yesterday on the serial number. Made in USA and 2 stamped on back. I took a good look at the control cavity. The wiring is a mess and some soldering was done very poorly.
The two volume pots appear to be non-original, but the tone pots appear to be original and have the codes , which I had to discern with a magnifying glass. The bridge pickup tone knob also has a at the bottom of the pot. Let me know if removing the pots, cleaning them up, as well as cleaning up the wiring in general will hurt the guitar’s value. It is already a bit of a mutt. The toggle appears to be original.
The guitar has a volute and the headstock writing of “Les Paul” and “”Model” appears to be screened and not a decal.

If you’re looking for an easy to play guitar, the action doesn’t get any lower than this baby. Excellent value and quality that’s typical of Korea today. It features a solid archtop mahogany body, 22 fret maple set-neck with ebony fretboard and synthetic bone nut, side markers on the side of fretboard only, jumbo frets, flat The setup on this guitar is superb and the tone is warm and rich, very good choice for anything besides metal.
Gibson introduced a new pattern when they began producing solid body guitars. An ink stamp on the back of the headstock which included either 5 or 6 digits. The first digit is the year and the other numbers are production numbers.
That could be, it was in Clinton Iowa. It says MOD on the back. I know nothing about this pickup so any info you can share will be much appreciated. I would put it on my acoustic but I’m very happy with the pickup that is on it. The leads as you can see are very brittle and I have no idea if it still works. Assuming it does, is it worth anything? I’ve never seen one with the adjustable polepieces. I’ve only seen them with the five flat poles with no pole under the second string.
I’ve got one identical in appearance in my Martin that says Mod

Tweet on Twitter Ca. Among the major players in the American market were the many importers and distributors who enriched the guitar landscape with instruments — usually at the lower ends of the market brought in from other countries, primarily from Europe, Asia, and to a lesser extent, Latin America. The analogy with automobiles is obvious. Univox was one of the first brands to make copies, and the brand achieved a fair amount of national visibility and distribution.
Univox was not, as you might guess, just another isolated Japanese import, but was part of a much larger story of its importer, the Merson company.

We sometimes get requests to verify the authenticity of Lollar pickups, whether its a set that pops up on eBay, or a used guitar that is said to be stocked with our stuff. Sometime in or we standardized how our pickups were marked, and it is still done the same today. The only way to know for sure that you have a genuine Lollar pickup is to check the bottom and look for the proper markings. We label them in a few different ways, from humbuckers to Strats… there are certain things to look for to insure authenticity.
Color is important as well… a black label is standard wind, grey is a Low Wind, and red is a High Wind. The name of the builder will be initialed in the right bottom corner. All of our Strat and Tele style pickups have this info hand written on the bottom: We use either white or black paint pens to handwrite on our pickups.
